DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nRockin the Boat: Flashbacks of the 1970s Asian Movement\nFeaturing over 350 black and white photos chronicling the beginning of the youth-inspired\, multi-generational Japanese-American community activism in Los Angeles.\nSunday\, January 25\, 2026 at 1pm\nDive into the photojournalism of Mary Uyematsu Kao as she discusses her second-book edition\, Rockin the Boat: Flashbacks of the 1970s Asian Movement. Featuring over 350 black and white photos chronicling the beginnings of the youth-inspired\, multi-generational Japanese-American community activism in Los Angeles. Their efforts spread from California to New York. \nThis exciting in-person event will include an author talk with Mary Uyematsu Kao followed by a community panel discussion and Q&A featuring Shoshana Arai\, Keith Kojimoto\, Kiana Hume.  \nMary Uyematsu Kao is the former publications coordinator for UCLA Asian American Studies Center\, is currently retired\, and writes for the Rafu Shimpo’s “Through the Fire” column.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \nTo register\, click here\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
