SUMMARY:Middle and High School Teachers Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:COURSE IS NOW CLOSED \nOur 2 day institute will introduce and/or reacquaint you with place based and inquiry based learning that meets Common Core and C3 Framework for Social Studies Standards. Our goal is to provide you with practical and useful ideas for implementing Social Studies education through learning activities and student generated research. This institute is framed by the compelling question\, “In want ways did place determine the fate of Japanese Americans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor?” to provoke students to pose meaningful questions\, apply critical thinking and build their own historical interpretations. \nUsing a regional perspective\, we dispel the current narrative of a single experience for Japanese Americans as we draw deeper conclusions and understanding of how and why this injustice took place. Case studies will compare pre and post war communities in Hawaii\, Seattle\, and California. This institute includes a visit to the Bainbridge Island Exclusion Memorial\, Wing Luke Museum\, and a walking tour of the International District. \n$250 professional development stipend upon completion of all seminar requirements. An additional $50 stipend for sharing curriculum! \nClick HERE to view the flyer. \nFill out the flyer and mail\, fax\, or drop off the $25 refundable registration fee by June 1\, 2016 to: \nNational Japanese American Historical Society\n1684 Post St. San Francisco\, CA. 94115\nPhone: 415-921-5007 / Fax: 415-921-5087 / Email: njahs@njahs.org
