Dive into the photojournalism of Mary Uyematsu Kao as she discusses her second-book edition, Rockin the Boat: Flashbacks of the 1970s Asian Movement. Featuring over 350 black and white photos chronicling the beginnings of the youth-inspired, multi-generational Japanese-American community activism in Los Angeles. Their efforts spread from California to New York.
This exciting in-person event will include an author talk with Mary Uyematsu Kao followed by a community panel discussion and Q&A featuring Shoshana Arai, Keith Kojimoto, Kiana Hume.
Mary Uyematsu Kao is the former publications coordinator for UCLA Asian American Studies Center, is currently retired, and writes for the Rafu Shimpo’s “Through the Fire” column.
